Hi friends,
Happy first day of fall (or spring, depending on where you are).
I am deep in the process of packing up my home — I'm preparing for a big overseas move and major changes. It's appropriate, I suppose, that it's the beginning of a new season: together, nature and I are shedding the old; stripping ourselves of what is no longer necessary; and preparing to settle in, rest, and recover during the winter.
Do the trees, you think, feel as overwhelmed as I do?
Here's what I've been thinking and writing about over the past few months:
In June and July, I once again participated in (and posted about) the Index Card a Day (ICAD) challenge, hosted by my friend Tammy Garcia of Daisy Yellow.
My new husband and I visited my grandparents — both of whom were recently diagnosed with cancer. I wrote about the weirdness of having some beautiful highs and devastating lows back to back.
I finished up another handbound art journal; see the video at the bottom of this email for a full flip-through! I'm almost finished with my current one (you can see pages from it here and here).
Experimenting and trying new things is part of embracing creativity. Recently, I leaned outside my comfort zone and explored digital collage on my own and in a collaboration with Max Devereaux.
I wrote about some of the go-to materials I use in my work, including mark-making tools and security envelopes. But one of my biggest beliefs when it comes to creating is to pay attention and embrace making ugly art.
These past few months, and my last summer in Baltimore, have been really bittersweet. I've been trying to soak it all up and enjoy every moment.
Thanks for reading and sharing this space with me. This is a new experiment and I appreciate your being here! The next newsletter will go out the first day of winter, but til then, you can find me at my blog or on Instagram.
Take care,
Ingrid
PS. If you're new — hi! Let me introduce myself.
